Ketamine infusion therapy may be considered for patients whose chronic pain has not improved with more traditional treatment options. Many patients explore ketamine after trying traditional medications, physical therapy, injections, lifestyle changes, or other conventional approaches without lasting relief.
You may be a candidate for ketamine IV therapy if you have treatment-resistant chronic pain, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, or pain that continues to interfere with your quality of life. Ketamine may also be considered when chronic pain has contributed to emotional distress, anxiety, or depression, and it is also considered for certain treatment-resistant mental health challenges when standard treatments have not helped.
Before recommending ketamine therapy, your Greater Austin Pain Center provider will review your health history, current symptoms, previous treatments, medications, and any medical conditions that could affect your safety during treatment.
You may be a good candidate for ketamine therapy if:
- Your chronic pain has not responded to standard treatment
- Your pain is nerve-related or difficult to control
- Your symptoms affect your sleep, mobility, work, or daily routine
- You have been diagnosed with CRPS, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, or chronic migraines
- You are interested in a non-opioid pain management option
- You are healthy enough to receive monitored IV infusion treatment
Ketamine therapy is not right for every patient. Individuals with certain uncontrolled medical conditions, serious blood pressure or heart concerns, active substance misuse issues, or specific psychiatric conditions may need a different treatment approach. Our team will help determine whether ketamine infusion therapy is a safe fit for your condition.
