What is Percutaneous Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Implant of Allogeneic Tissue-based Product?

Percutaneous Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Implant of Allogeneic Tissue-based Product is an intervertebral disc injection made up of allogenic nucleus pulposus, the material normally found inside the disc. The goal of this therapy is to rehydrate discs that are worn out, helping to restore the normal structure. This in turn can help improve discogenic low back pain.

What does It treat?

The goal of a Percutaneous Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Implant is to treat pain in the low back related to degenerated intervertebral discs. The procedure helps to restore the normal anatomy of the disc, and can relieve disc related pain. It can also be used to help offload the pressure on these nerves.

What to Expect from the Percutaneous Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Implant procedure

The procedure is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that typically only takes about 10 minutes to perform. Using X-Ray guidance, a needle is inserted into a degenerated intervertebral disc. After confirmation that the needle is in the correct position, a reconstituted solution composed of normal disc material is then injected into the disc.

Risks of The procedure

Percutaneous Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Implant of Allogeneic Tissue-based Product is a very safe procedure. The most common side effect is soreness and mildly increased pain for a few days following the procedure. However, most patients do not experience negative side effects to the procedure.
